From 23 to 25 November 2016, the Palais des Nations in Geneva hosted the Global Summit on Religion, Peace, and Security. This significant event, co-organized by the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect and the International Association for the Defense of Religious Liberty, addressed the crucial role of fostering religious freedom and countering violent extremism and atrocity crimes. The summit aimed to promote peaceful and inclusive societies by establishing an international platform to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 16 and 17. Participants from diverse backgrounds shared insights and best practices, contributing to a comprehensive strategy for enhancing global peace and security. The outcomes included a detailed report with recommendations for future actions and the launch of the “Jean Nussbaum and Eleanor Roosevelt” international Award on Liberty and Peace, alongside the debut of new publications by the International Association for the Defense of Religious Liberty.
